EQ: Personality &

Behavioral

Though often neglected in the business world, personality is essential for building and maintaining positive, supportive relationships between team members in a work environment. Although major personality traits are often labelled under the collective title emotional quotient (EQ), they also include a variety of other attributes such as drive, sociability, likability, conscientiousness and openness to new ideas and things.

Mentis® personality assessment tests, including competency-based interviews (CBI), can effectively determine the personality types of their subjects, revealing how they are likely to act in ideal situations as well as in stressful ones. A varied set of personalities within an office setting tends to produce an effective workforce, as different team members settle naturally into the roles that best suit them, each making up for the potential shortcomings of the others.

Understanding the personality spectrum

At Mentis®, we offer effective analysis and coaching for subjects to understand their strengths and weaknesses, and develop positive habits to increase their effectiveness in comprehensive range of work-related situations.

The most widely cited and respected scientific system for measuring personality at work originates with Robert Hogan, PhD, and his associates. Mentis® has extensive experience in the application of these methods, proudly serving as an Authorized Hogan Distributor for over 16 years.

Three detailed Hogan assessments are available to explore the various character tendencies of each test subject. Each of the following assessments takes 15 minutes online and is available in 50 languages.

Brightside (HPI): The Hogan Personality Inventory measures personality across seven primary scales and six occupational scales. It describes how subjects are likely to behave in normal situations; i.e. most of the time. This test is commonly used as a standard character assessment, helping to place employees in appropriate positions. It also provides a base measurement to establish a direction for training, coaching and personal development.

Darkside (HDS): As a counterpoint to the HPI, the Hogan Development Survey focuses exclusively on what are known as dark-side personality traits – tendencies which are positive in moderation, but can derail relationships when taken too far, or when allowed to become dominant during periods of great stress. This test measures subjects across 11 scales, opening the door to effective coaching that can mitigate the dangers of a personality imbalance in crucial moments.

Inside (MVPI): The Motives, Values, Preferences Inventory explores the deepest goals, drivers and interests of test subjects. Knowing what a person truly values can give key insight into the way they will respond in a variety of situations. The assessment follows five themes related to the subject’s lifestyle, beliefs and preferences – as well as 10 primary scales measuring their level of interest in different types of goals.

Competencies lie at the heart of any integrated approach to human resource management. Therefore, Mentis® also offers an additional tool for behavioral evaluation, which is especially important for current and future leaders:

CBIs: Competency-Based Interviews are structured interviews between an individual and an assessor. CBIs focus on particular areas of competence which are important to leadership within an organization. Because of their focused structured format and specific competency linkage, CBIs carry a high predictive value.

Personality leads to potential

Character type, behavior under stress, goals and motivations – these variables make all the difference when a person is trusted with real responsibility. Effective teamwork and leadership depend even more heavily on achieving the right balance of personality traits, and this process begins with a clear evaluation of the character of your workforce.

Motivation, coordination, communication and team spirit are all highly dependent on personalities that work well together, particularly for those in leadership positions. We use Hogan’s world-class and powerful science of personality to help you hire the right people, develop talented employees, build great leaders and impact the bottom line.
